Thinking of investing in your first sports car?  Sometimes the best deals you’ll find are pre-owned or used cars.

This is particularly true in the case of sports cars. Why?  Many people would like to own their own sports car for the performance and handling, but other folks may want to simply experience the sheer driving experience and prestige that only a sports car will provide.

Buying a brand new sports car may be too expense for many you, that’s why a pre-owned or second hand sports car might best the best option.

Here are Four Tips on Buying Used Sports Cars:

1. Set Proper Expectations

Many people go out to buy a used sports car with a brand new car in mind.  Buying used sports cars is about getting the best value for your money.  Knowing your needs and preferences is also a must when purchasing used sports cars.

2. Set a Fixed Budget

Purchasing a sports car, even used ones, can be expensive.  Researching via the internet or reading sports car “buy and sell” magazines or classified ads can give you a general feeling about the current prices of different sports car models in your particular market.

3. Examine the Vehicle Carefully

You must be careful when inspecting a potential used car, and take your time doing so.  There are four essential elements of the car that should be thoroughly inspected:  the interior, the body, the engine, and the maintenance log-book.  A well-maintained sports car is more valuable than one without records.

Lift the hood or bonnet and examine the car’s engine closely.

Many people may not know too much about car electronics or motors, but a basic visual inspection will give you a general feel of how the car has been maintained by the previous owner.

Also check out the inside of the tailpipe.  If it is greasy, this may mean that there is a problem with the engine compression or internal oil leaking.

Check for scratches or dents on the body of the car. Of course, don’t forget to check the car’s title, etc.  Missing papers will cost you heaps more money or may even prevent the purchase.

Here’s the situation. We need to get rid of a 1968 Jaguar XKE that’s been sitting in the garage for well over a decade. It’s all original parts, no body damage aside from a hinky mirror that needs to be reattached, low mileage and aside from the engine being in non-working condition and a decent layer of dust is otherwise fine. I have a buyer interested but he needs to know how much we want for it. Having never sold a car like this we have no idea what we should be asking. Can anyone help us out?

Without knowing the detailed history of the car, and not being able to see it in person, I have no way of telling you. You may not think that there is any body damage, but bondo is evil, deceptive stuff. How bad is the rust? How does the interior look? Does the engine turn over? Etc. If you could provide some detailed pictures, I might be able to tell you.

How do you change the air filter on a 2004 Ford Mustang GT?

I see the bracket that is at the top of the air filter, but was wondering if I should take the bolt off that holds the air filter housing?
I don’t see but one bracket around the air filter case and it doesn’t seem to slit in half so I can get the filter out. Now when I release the bracket I could remove the air filter if there was room, but there’s not. Do I need to release the casing by unscrewing it from the body of the vehicle?
I didn’t get a manual with the car. I bought it used.
